Michael Polemis

ETOS LAB Director

Michael Polemis is an Associate Professor of Industrial Economics at the Department of Economics and a Member of the Hellenic Competition Commission since April 2017. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. His main areas of research include industrial organisation, competition policy and regulation and energy and environmental economics. Based on IDEAS RePEc’s ranking list, he is currently ranked (March 2020) at the Top 10% of economists globally and at the Top 5% of economists in Greece according to seven criteria (this ranking takes into account only publications in the last 10 years, for authors registered with the RePEc Author Service). He has more than 2,000 citations as appeared in Google Scholar. He has published more than 80 papers in many distinguished scientific journals -some of which are leading in the field- such as the European Journal of Operational Research, Economics Letters, Regional Studies, International Business Review, The Energy Journal, Energy Economics, Journal of Environmental Management, Empirical Economics, Economic Modelling, among others. He has written five scientific books and serves as a member of the editorial board of the European Competition Journal. He participates in many international conferences in Greece and abroad.

Constantina Kottaridi

Constantina Kottaridi is a Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Piraeus. She got her first degree at Athens University of Economics and Business, Department of Economics in 1996. She later attended the Graduate Program of Iowa State University, USA, between 1997-1999 where she was granted a full scholarship. While at ISU, she also took several courses in the Statistics Department where she got my minor. Returning to Greece, she joined the Doctoral Program of the Department of International and European Economic Studies at Athens University of Economics and Business from where she was granted her PhD in 2004. Her specialization area lies with Foreign Direct Investment and Multinational Corporations. She is interested both in the macroeconomic aspects related to FDI, such as the impact of FDI on growth as well as the microeconomic angle of MNCs, i.e. their operations, subsidiaries, R&D etc. 

Kyriakos Drivas

Kyriakos Drivas is an assistant professor at the University of Piraeus, Department of Economics. He has received his BSc from University of Crete, Department of Economics, his MSc from University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Department of Agricultural Economics and a PhD from University of California-Berkeley, Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics. His research interests lie on the empirical study of innovation management, intellectual property rights, economic growth and technology transfer. He has over twenty publications in peer review journals including Nature, European Economic Review, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, and International Journal of Industrial Organization.

Symeoni-Eleni Soursou

Soursou Symeoni-Eleni is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Economics at the University of Piraeus. During her PhD studies, she was granted a scholarship for a teaching assistantship from the University of Piraeus during the Spring 2022 semester. She has extensive experience in teaching economics at the undergraduate and post-graduate level. Since 2015, she serves as a Member of the Hellenic Association of Photovoltaic Companies and a Member of the Global Women’s Network for the Energy Transition (2020-). As an Accredited Mediator, she mainly focuses on dispute resolutions among energy companies. Her research work focuses specifically on energy and environmental economics. During her Master's studies, her team achieved the highest score and gained the Virtual Conference Paper Award for the academic paper “Potential Strategies in Arctic Circle: A game theoretic approach” (July 2018). Her research work appears in scientific journals such as Energy Economics, Economic Analysis and Policy, Energy RESEARCH LETTERS, Journal of Risk and Financial Management, etc.

Konstantina Karveli

Konstantina Karveli is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Economics at the University of Piraeus. She holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and a master’s degree in Bio-economics from the University of Piraeus. Her Ph.D thesis attempts to investigate the impact of environmental degradation on tourism industry. She has experience in teaching economics at the undergraduate level.

Georgios Maniatis

Giorgos Maniatis is a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Economics of the University of Piraeus. He holds a PhD in Economics from the Department of Economics of the University of Athens. He has worked at IOBE as a researcher and at the General Directorate of the Competition Commission as a specialist scientist. Since 2007 he is the head of the sectoral studies department of IOBE. He has written a number of sectoral and special studies with an emphasis on energy markets and the analysis of economic effects of changes in taxation in product markets. His works have been published in international academic journals, such as Energy Policy and Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews and in proceedings of scientific conferences.

Panagiotis Fotis

Panagiotis Fotis holds a PhD from the Athens University of Economics and Business and works at the Hellenic Competition Commission. He holds Mphil and Msc in economics from the universities of Glasgow and O.P.A. – E.K.P.A.

His Thesis focuses on Competition Policy and Industrial Organization issues. He is the head of the Directorate of G.D.A. of the Competition Commission. He has taught at the universities: O.P.A., Piraeus, Central Greece the courses of Microeconomics, Environmental Economics and Investment Evaluation.

He has published scientific articles in international and Greek magazines, while he is the co-author of the book 'The Competitive structure of Gasoline Industry, Gasoline Price Asymmetries Across the Globe'.

Asterios Stroumpoulis

Dr. Asterios Stroumboulis holds a PhD from the University of Piraeus, specifically from the Department of Business Administration of the University of Piraeus, with a focus on Information Systems, Sustainable Development and Supply Chains. He holds an M.B.A. degree. from the Department of Business Administration of the University of Piraeus, a Master's Degree in Transport Systems from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and a Diploma in Agronomist & Topographical Engineering from the Polytechnic School of AUTH. He has a long working experience as a project coordinator in various European and national projects. In addition, he has work experience as a specialist in training and development of educational seminars in the private sector. Finally, he teaches the laboratory courses of IT Applications at the Department of Business Administration of the University of Piraeus. His research interests include various areas, such as: Information Systems, Digital Transformation, Sustainable Development, Business Performance.​

Panayiotis Agisilaou

Dr. Panayiotis Agisilaou is the founder and managing director of Trojan Economics. He is also an adjunct lecturer at the Open University of Cyprus. He has extensive consulting experience in advising companies in all fields of competition economics, with expertise in the application of quantitative techniques to complex antitrust and merger issues. He has advised on competition matters covering a wide range of sectors, before the Commission for the Protection of Competition in Cyprus. He has also testified as an expert witness in court and arbitration proceedings involving competition issues in Cyprus. Dr Agisilaou holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of East Anglia, an MA in Economics for Competition Law from King’s College London, an MSc in Economics from University College London (with Distinction) and a BSc in Economics from the University of Athens (ranked first). Dr Agisilaou has published extensively on competition policy and regulation in Cyprus and the European Union and is a co-author of “Competition Policy in Cyprus: 1989-2009” published by Legal Library, Athens. He is also an author at Concurrences and a case report contributor to Oxford Competition Law. He speaks at conferences and provides economics training for judges. He has been recommended and recognized in Who’s Who Legal 2020 and 2021 as a leading competition economics expert. In addition, he is the exclusive recipient of the Lexology Client Choice Award for 2021 in Cyprus.
